AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow Taken from what were probably bassist Israel Crosby's final recordings with pianist Ahmad Jamal (14 months before the bassist's unexpected death), this LP features the classic version of Jamal's Trio (with drummer Vernell Fournier ) playing live at the leader's short-lived Chicago club. The precursor to the later Ahmad Jamal Trio, the Three Strings would, at different times, include bassists Richard Davis and Israel Crosby. His lean style, complex use of space, and simple embellishments have served as a model for many other artists, most notably Miles Davis.
