What you can stop doing right now to promote a positive environment in your Fire Department.

Negativity in any area of our lives is contagious, especially in the Fire Service.  Many of us get discouraged in our fire departments when negativity is running rampant.  It is so easy for us to get sucked into the ever popular craze of complaining and sobbing about what is or isn’t happening in our organization.  Many times it can feel like Middle School all over again.

Leather Helmet Raffle – Independent Fire Co.

Submitted by @independent_fire_company (Instagram User)

“What I’ve seen a lot of companies doing lately is raffling off leather helmets. Either Cairns or Phenix. Example you can sell your 100 tickets 20$ a pop for a carins, app 800-1000 go to the helmet itself and the rest would go to the company. Just saw this one the other day, 10 100$ tickets for a Phenix helmet. $400 to the company. Could even get a deal from a distributor as well, possibly even raffle off 2. But I’ve seen at least a dozen raffles This year already.”

Podcast Episode 018 – Staying in Step

In this episode Nick Hilton and Paul Balentine sit down and discuss the topic of staying in step on the fire scene and within your organization. It is extremely important to be sure everyone in your fire department is on the same page. In order for your members to believe in your decisions, actions or procedures, they must be communicated the reason, or why.

Short on attendance? Why?

We are facing a real challenge in the volunteer and call fire service.  Retention and attendance seems to be at the top of all of the challenges we are facing.  Many thoughts and theories have been thrown around about why we are faced with such problems.  Here at Brotherhood Academy Radio, our job is to develop solutions based on our experience and the experience of our followers and the guests on our podcasts.  If you have not subscribed to the podcast, please do so.  We can be found on iTunes and Spotify, simply search for Brotherhood Academy Radio.

Submit your fundraiser ideas

We want to get everyone to put their heads together and create a resource we can all benefit from. Fundraising is a necessity in the Volunteer and Call fire service. It is easy to become stagnant with new and creative ideas for raising money. It seems though that every department does something slightly different for raising money for their organization.

Please fill out the form below with your fundraising idea. We will review it and submit it to a new resource section of this webpage. We will also feature the ideas on Facebook, Instagram and even the podcast.

Please, one idea per submission. We’ll take as many as you have though!

Empowerment through talent

Walk in to any firehouse across the United States, whether it be career, volunteer, on-call or combination and you will find one thing.  The Fire Service is filled with people from all walks of life united together with the one common passion of firefighting.  The talent pool we find ourselves immersed in is incredible. We all have the same basic training to become a firefighter and EMS provider, but we do not all have the same knowledge, experience, craft or skill that goes beyond the Fire Service.
